the italian designers of formafantasma created the multi-layer hidden collection for the netherlands' droog
design. the collection features a clock and a table each packaged within multiple layers of boxes. the clock
piece began using a basic house clock as a starting point. formafantasma wanted to ?move packaging from
the level of the image to the level of content?. thus the clock is packaged in a series of boxes made from the
cheap material OSB, a type of wood which has a short lifespan, stretching the act of opening to a point
where the objects loses its value and the packaging becomes the real object. the designers even treated the
wood with laser-cut shapes and inlays to transform it into a more precious material. the table is also made
from OSB and features a box embedded into its top. the box is covered with inlays of the tools used to
make the table and inside wood chips from the making of the table reveal the process behind the piece.
